• Sampradaya Dance Creations

The performance includes two drastically different choreographic pieces. The first, a bharatanatyam piece, titled, Vivarta– Manifestations of Lord, while the second is titled, HowZaat! The later composition extends the boundaries of contemporary bharatanatyam, in a satirical performance looking at the world of cricket, keeping in mind the colonialism, politics, and culture of the sport. The pieces illustrate two versions of the same country, both the rich classical tradition of India and the popularized national sport. Furthermore, with keeping the audience in mind, these performances are both relatable to a multifaceted audience, who can relate to both choreographies in the diaspora.

  • Revealed by Fire

Revealed by Fire was choreographed by Lata Pada in light of the tragic deaths of her husband and daughters in the 1985 bombing of Air India Flight 182. With its universal themes, the piece demonstrates the universality of grief, pain, and the transformational process. Beyond just the description of the choreography and biographies, this piece of ephemera provides insight into the production, including technical & contract requirements, stage and drapery dimensions, and reviews. Combined, we are able to visualize the piece without photos, and have a greater understanding of the impact and symbolism of the choreography.
