Terms & Conditions For Use Of AIIS Photographs

The Center for Art and Archaeology (CA&A) of American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) at Gurgaon has in its Photo-Archive photographs of which it has negatives and copyright. Such photographs are marked with a negative number preceded by the letters AAB or AIIS, or W. Spink and have an accession number. The Institute has photographs of monuments and of objects in museums and in private collections.

Photographs from the Photo-Archive of the Institute are made available in limited numbers to genuine scholars and students for illustrating their scholarly publications. Utilization of these photographs for commercial publicity is not allowed.

Before publishing photographs of objects in museums or in private collections, it is essential that the persons who receive the photographs from the Institute secure the written consent of the museums and/or owners concerned.

Persons who receive photographs from the Institute for publication are requested:

1. To give proper photographic credit to AIIS in the publication, in a M.A. or Ph.D. dissertation. The credit line should state- ‘Photo: American Institute of Indian Studies'
2. To notify Director (Academic), CA&A at caa.archives@aiis.edu.in of plans to publish photographs by sending full details prior to publication and obtain permission.
3. To send free of cost to the Institute one off print or PDF ‘as appeared in publication’ in the case of articles or papers and one copy, digital or print, in the case of monographs or books in which photographs supplied by the Institute are published
